Ashridge House Wedding Photographer
There’s something a little bit magical about photographing a wedding at Ashridge House in Hertfordshire. As a wedding photographer at Blue Lily Weddings, I’m lucky enough to work at some incredible venues, but Ashridge House in Herts always feels extra special. It has that perfect blend of grandeur and warmth – the kind of place that makes you stop for a second when you drive up the long, tree-lined driveway and think, “Yes… this is going to be a good one.”

Ashridge House Wedding Venue
The first thing that hits you is the architecture. Ashridge House is a stunning Gothic revival mansion, with dramatic turrets, sweeping staircases, and those impossibly elegant, high ceilings. From a photography point of view, it’s a dream. The light pours in through enormous windows, creating the most beautiful, soft natural light for bridal prep and portraits. As a photographer, I’m always looking for flattering window light, interesting textures, and depth – and this venue delivers all of that in abundance.

Getting Ready at Ashridge House
I usually start the day with the bridal preparations in one of the elegant suites. There’s a lovely buzz in the room: hair and makeup artists at work, bridesmaids in matching robes, champagne glasses clinking. I move quietly, capturing those candid moments – a proud mum watching her daughter get into her dress, a bridesmaid fastening delicate buttons, the bride catching her reflection for the first time. Ashridge’s interiors provide the perfect backdrop: ornate mirrors, grand fireplaces, and soft neutral tones that let the couple shine while still giving the images a luxurious feel.

Wedding Ceremony Photography
Ceremonies at Ashridge House are always beautiful. Whether it’s held in one of the grand halls or a more intimate space, there’s a sense of occasion that’s hard to replicate elsewhere. As a wedding photographer, I’m constantly anticipating moments – the groom’s expression as the bride walks down the aisle, the squeeze of hands during the vows, that just-married grin as they walk back up the aisle together. The scale of the rooms allows me to capture both sweeping wide-angle shots that show off the architecture and tight, emotional close-ups that tell the real story of the day.

Confetti and Couple Portraits at Ashridge House
After the ceremony, we often head outside for confetti and drinks on the lawns. The grounds at Ashridge are absolutely stunning. Rolling parkland, ancient trees, and perfectly kept gardens give me endless options for couple portraits. In Herts, we’re lucky to have such gorgeous countryside, and Ashridge really makes the most of it. I love taking couples for a relaxed wander during golden hour, when the light turns warm and glowy. Those are the moments where I create those romantic, softly backlit images that feel timeless and natural.

Wedding Breakfast and Speeches at Ashridge House
The wedding breakfast and speeches usually take place in one of the grand reception rooms, often styled beautifully with florals, candles, and elegant place settings. I always take time to photograph the details – the stationery, the centrepieces, the cake – because so much thought goes into them. Then come the speeches, which are always a highlight. Laughter, a few happy tears, and plenty of storytelling. I stay alert, camera ready, capturing genuine reactions and all those in-between moments that couples might miss on the day.

Evening Party Photos at Ashridge House
As the evening rolls in, Ashridge House takes on a whole new atmosphere. The light softens, candles flicker, and the dance floor comes alive. I love photographing the first dance here – the dramatic interiors make for stunning, atmospheric images. Using a mix of natural light, subtle flash, and creative angles, I capture the energy of the party without ever making it feel staged.
